LASER SKIN REJUVENATION FOR VASCULAR & PIGMENTED LESIONS
“Erase time and brown spots.”
The sun’s light, warmth and vitamin D are wonderfully healing, however, too much sun exposure can damage our skin. How? The sun’s heat dries out skin that isn’t protected by shade or SPF and depletes its natural supply of moisture and oils. It essentially dries out the moisture barrier. Too much UV radiation from the sun causes burning as well as permanent structural changes in the skin.
Over time, sun-exposed skin loses moisture, appearing flaky, dry, prematurely wrinkled, dull and “leathery” looking. It can create long-term changes in your skin’s natural collagen, causing “photo-ageing” which is premature ageing of the skin due to sun exposure).
WHAT ARE LESIONS?
Pigmented lesions arise from a wide range of natural and environmental sources including photodamage, genetic makeup, and the ageing process. They may also manifest as side effects of medical procedures. Both can vary in size, shape, and prevalence in a given area. Pigmented lesions include pigment-related birthmarks, age spots, freckles, hyperpigmentation, actinic keratosis and pigmented nevi.
Laser energy targets the pigment in tissue and breaks and ablates that pigment so that the body can naturally absorb pigment particles by the immune system.
WHAT ARE FRECKLES?
Freckles are pigmented areas appearing over the skin of the face or body, and many people wish to have them removed or reduced. They may vary in size, shape, number or concentration.
TREATMENT OPTIONS: SUN DAMAGE
Although chemical peels and dermabrasion may be used, light- and laser-based skin rejuvenation therapies are the most popular and effective.
HOW DO YOU TREAT FRECKLES?
To treat these pigmented areas, energy is applied to break up the pigment for removal by the body’s natural processes with minimal damage to surrounding healthy skin and tissue. This can be more or less difficult depending on factors such as the patient’s skin colour, as well as the size, shape, and number of freckles. Treatment of darker-skinned patients is more challenging, but a good device used carefully by an expert can provide good results.
